Kennedy Space Center in Florida Adds Charging Stations for Electric Vehicles.

NASA Transportation Specialist Spencer Davis of Spaceport Integration and Services checks out one of the new electric vehicle charging stations near the headquarters building at the agency’s Kennedy Space in Florida. The center recently installed 28 of the dual-port charging devices in areas such as the Neil Armstrong Operations and Checkout Building, Space Station Processing Facility, Operations Support Buildings I and II, and the Logistics Facility.

The stations are open to both government and employee-owned vehicles. Commercial partner Florida Power and Light completed the installation and will operate and maintain the charging stations. Future plans include adding charging stations at the Launch Control Center, Launch Complex 39B, Hangar AE, the Neil Armstrong Operations and Checkout building, and Operations Support Building.

Kennedy’s sustainability objectives include reducing gas and diesel fleet vehicles and adding more electric vehicles. As of late 2021, 75% of Kennedy Space Center’s fleet of vehicles uses alternative fuels (electricity, E-85 and biodiesel) to power them.
