Clementine was launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base and headed towards the Moon to test sensors and spacecraft components under extended exposure to the space environment. Clementine also mapped the lunar surface using its five different imaging systems. Clementine mapped the surface of the Moon using bandwidths in the ultraviolet (UV), visible, near infrared (NIR), and infrared (IR) spectrum. The mission ended in June 1994 after a malfunction onboard caused the spacecraft to deplete its fuel supply and spin at 80 rpm.
