Project: Advanced Control Technology for Integrated Vehicles (ACTIVE)
The F-15 Short Take Off and Landing/Maneuver Technology Demonstrator (STOL/MTD), arrived June 15, 1993 at NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center, Edwards, CA. The aircraft, using a multi-axis thrust-vectoring system, was used as a testbed for a number of advanced research projects replacing Dryden’s F-15 Highly Integrated Digital Electronic Control (HIDEC) research aircraft.
Dryden used the STOL/MTD initially in the ACTIVE project that investigated improvements in cruise speeds and trim drag reduction during cruise flights or maneuvers. The ACTIVE project concentrated on parameter identification and system optimization and integration efforts. The F-15 STOL was on loan from the U.S. Air Force.15 Jun 1993NASA Photo› F-15 ACTIVE Project Description
