An aerial view of Hangar S at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. From 1959 to 1963, the 61,300-square-foot facility was a hub of activity as America prepared for the program to send men on their first trips into space during Project Mercury. Hangar S was the location of spacecraft preflight processing, astronaut training and crew quarters.
