NASA’s Environment and Energy “Blue Marble” Awards recognizes groups and individuals demonstrating exceptional environmental leadership in support of NASA’s missions and goals. The “Blue Marble” Awards Program contributes to NASA’s mission by raising internal awareness of the important role employees and contractors play, often behind the scenes, in enabling environmentally sound mission success. The program provides individuals and groups an opportunity to have their initiatives seen by senior management, as well as by coworkers. The program provides a NASA-wide approach to meeting specific employee recognition requirements found in Executive Order 13423 – Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation Management. Additionally, NASA’s Blue Marble Awards Program serves to facilitate nominations to external environment and energy award programs, such as The White House’s GreenGov Presidential Awards and DOE’s Federal Energy & Water Management Awards. Centers are encouraged to use information presented for a Blue Marble Award to nominate their program or project for these annual awards (they do not have to be Blue Marble Award winners to be submitted for external awards).
