Greenhouse Gas Emissions Status and Progress

Overall, the Fiscal Year 2019 Scope 1&2 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emission declined 37.6% from the baseline Fiscal Year 2008.  NASA strives to reduce its GHG through cost-effective strategies in line with other Sustainability efforts that supports its mission.  Scope 1 & 2 efforts include investing directly in more efficient equipment and renewable energy, replacing or renewing inefficient legacy buildings, and transportation fuel management.  For the largest sources, Scope 2 NASA purchased electricity, emissions have decreased by 45% since Fiscal Year 2008.
