The National Science Foundation (NSF), with cooperation from NASA, installed a fixed antenna for TDRS-1 at the South Pole – the South Pole TDRSS Relay (SPTR) at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. Because of the age of TDRS-1, the orbital inclination (tilt) from the equatorial plan was changing. TDRS-1 was able to see both poles and transmit data to the White Sands Complex in New Mexico. Since January 1998, high speed data has been received and transmitted on the S- and Ku-bands.
