The following is a statement from NASA Marshall Space Flight Center Director Jody Singer:
NASA leadership continues to make the wellbeing, health and safety of the Marshall family a top priority. Due to the rising number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the state, Governor Kay Ivey’s recent guidance and to comply with all local and federal guidelines, Marshall is moving into Stage 4 of our agency coronavirus response framework. This effort has been put in place to help slow the transmission of COVID-19 and protect the Marshall family and community.
Effective immediately, the NASA and contractor teams will begin an orderly transition that puts all buildings, operations and hardware in a safe condition until on-site work can safely resume. Mandatory telework is in effect for ALL employees, with the exception of limited personnel required to maintain the safety and security of the center, safety of our astronauts, and critical hardware, until further notice.
Our current plans are for the center to be operating at Stage 4 by Monday, March 30, 2020. The status of the center will be updated regularly and communicated to all employees.
I know this creates an even more challenging situation as we work in new ways to deliver on our mission, but I am proud of our Marshall team and our agility. We have made this decision because we care about our team and our community, and are asking all to keep themselves and their families healthy.
