Michoud Hurricane Ida Status Reports

STATUS REPORT

NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility reopened Sept. 7 for access to tenants and team members who must be on-site to complete recovery operations, assess work areas, and prepare to resume normal operations following Hurricane Ida’s landfall in Louisiana on Aug. 29.

Over the weekend, the city of New Orleans and Entergy restored power and water service to Michoud. NASA, tenant, and contractor teams worked diligently to safely and methodically reestablish commercial utility services to buildings across the site. Some work remains to activate specific areas and we hope to restore electricity across the entire site this week.

While the site did not sustain significant structural damage, it did sustain widespread damage across the roofing systems, as well as water intrusion into several buildings. Our roofing teams have made more than 700-point repairs across the site and efforts are continuing to repair others. Employees are encouraged to stay in touch with their supervisors for operational updates.

STATUS REPORT

Assessments continue at NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility following Hurricane Ida. Damage to the roofs of several buildings have been confirmed and includes loose panels, panels removed during the storm, debris and water damage. Michoud remains on limited generator power for essential areas. Due to no power in the factory, assessments inside have been limited and by flashlight only. No damage has been observed to date to flight hardware with inspections inside the factory to continue for the next several days. Crews will also continue assessments and inspections across the facility grounds and buildings. Debris remains across campus and on roadways and is being cleared by on-site teams. The facility remains closed and access limited to essential personnel.

A damaged fan dislodged from the roof is seen on Building 103 at NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility.
