NASA’s Global Hawk tail number 872 marked a milestone on its return flight to NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center at Edwards, CA, following its deployment to NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia for the 2014 HS3 mission. The autonomously operated unmanned aircraft, shown here during a checkout flight for a prior mission, logged its 100th NASA flight totaling about 1,407 flight hours on Sept. 30, 2014. The aircraft, the sixth built by Northrop Grumman in the Air Force’s Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration program, had previously made 43 test flights for the Air Force before being transferred to NASA in 2007. It was returned to flight status in 2009.
