Title: Automatic Collision Avoidance Technology / Fighter Risk Reduction Project (ACAT/FRRP)
Designers: Mark Skoog and David Faust/Graphics
Illustrator: David Faust
Year it was designed: ~2008
Explanation or story behind the logo: The logo is a picture of two fighters avoiding terrain and each other. At the three points of the triangular logo are the names of three organizations that collaborated on development and flight test in an F-16 of the Auto Ground Collision Avoidance System (AGCAS).
OSF AFRL = Office of the Secretary of Defense (DoD)/Air Force Research Lab
NASA AFFTC = NASA and the Air Force Flight Test Center
Lockheed = Lockheed Martin Company
At the edges of the triangular logo are the three top-level requirements that were stated for the development of an Automatic Collision Avoidance Technology (ACAT) system for a fighter aircraft:
1. Do No Harm (do not add any hazard or risk to the pilot or other aircraft).
2. Prevent Collisions (with terrain for this program).
3. Do Not Interfere (do not interfere with or be an annoyance to the pilot’s ability to execute mission tasks).
