NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center has awarded a contract to Southwestern Dakotah, Inc., of Tucson, Ariz., for revitalization of mechanical infrastructure in the main administration building on its campus at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif.
The firm fixed-price construction contract has a base value of about $6 million, and could be worth up to $ 6.166 million to the firm if all options are exercised.
The contract calls for replacement or upgrading of deteriorating and inefficient mechanical systems in Bldg. 4800, including fan house chillers, cooling towers and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) controls. The work will focus on the center’s mission control room, test range data hubs, telemetry and radar acquisition processing systems and mission-critical laboratories and support offices.
The contract specifies that the work be completed within 500 days after issuance of the notice to proceed.
Located on the edge of Rogers Dry Lake at Edwards, the Dryden Flight Research Center is NASA’s premier installation for atmospheric flight research. It is chartered to research, develop, verify and transfer advanced aeronautics, space and related technologies and conduct atmospheric Earth and astronomical science flight operations from its main campus at Edwards and its satellite aircraft operations facility in nearby Palmdale, Calif.
