NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) is scheduled to launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California on Nov. 23 PST (Nov. 24 EST). DART is the first mission to test technologies for preventing an impact of Earth by a hazardous asteroid. DART’s target asteroid is not a threat to Earth.
Name: Julie Schneringer
Official title: Senior Launch Site Integration Manager
Job responsibilities: I work with the spacecraft team to identify, document, and subsequently provide the facilities, supplies, and support they need to process the spacecraft at the launch site and to prepare it for launch. We provide this support through numerous ways, including contracts, work orders, and local accounts.
Time working for NASA: I have worked at Kennedy Space Center for 34 years. I worked for McDonnell Douglas Space Systems Corporation on the Payload Ground Operations Contract for the first three years, and the remaining 31 years have been with NASA.
Degrees earned: I have a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering, with a bio-medical engineering option, from the University of Colorado in Boulder. I have a Master of Science degree in engineering management from the University of Central Florida in Orlando.
Hometown: I was born in Denver, Colorado. My family moved to Brighton, 30 miles from Denver, one month before I started kindergarten. After college, I spent 10 years in Florida before moving to Lompoc, California, to permanently work at the Vandenberg Space Force Base resident office as LSP was established.
Hobbies: I enjoy reading, attending live music performances, traveling, and art.
Fun fact: I collect necklaces during my travels and at art shows. I have a large variety of mostly one-of-a-kind art or craft pieces in my collection.
