Success Stories: OSDR Interviews Fiona Samson

Welcome to our “Open Science Success Stories”. These narratives showcase insights gleaned from interviews with users of the Open Science Data Repository. The narratives shared by interviewees underscore the significance of raising public awareness about the availability of these data. This endeavor is vital in creating diverse opportunities for individuals to engage in scientific research, including the option to become part of the AWG community.

Fiona is a recent high school graduate who will be attending the University of Chicago in the fall. She first became involved with the Open Science Datasets through the GeneLab for High Schools (GL4HS) summer training opportunity hosted virtually at NASA Ames Research Center. Fiona reflects on how her GL4HS has given her a strong foundation in research techniques and scientific inquiry and how she benefited from opportunities to which she was invited through the program. She looks forward to applying these skills in her future academic and professional pursuits.

Discover how the four-week GL4HS program inspired Fiona and hear her advice for prospective applicants of GL4HS and similar programs to support early career excursions into space biology.
