Nichole Schwanbeck

Deputy Element Manager, Research Operations and Integration

Nichole Schwanbeck manages the team that implements studies for NASA’s Human Research Program (HRP) that fly on the International Space Station and other space-based platforms. She helps negotiate, plan, integrate, and execute HRP’s research experiments for these platforms based on the requirements, resources, and direction provided by HRP element and program management. 

Schwanbeck began her career at NASA as a contractor in the Mission Operations Directorate, working on crew and flight controller training. After becoming a civil servant in 2006, she has served in various integration and management roles supporting the space station.

In 2012, Schwanbeck began working in HRP as an increment manager, providing the interface between HRP and the space station program for in-flight operations. She became the Research Operations and Integration element’s deputy manager for flight in 2015. Schwanbeck received her bachelor’s degree in engineering physics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
