Darlene S. Walker
Director of STEM Engagement, Glenn Research Center
Darlene Walker is the Director for the Office of STEM Engagement at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, OH. Ms. Walker is responsible for the development and implementation of a portfolio of innovative partnerships and programs that leverage NASA’s unique mission content, facilities and workforce to improve the quality of science and math education nationally. The Office of STEM Engagement collaborates with universities, museums, K-12 school districts and host of non-profit organizations to achieve its mission. In her current role, she is responsible for both Agency and Center supported K-12, informal education, and university affairs programs.
Experience
Prior to this assignment, Ms. Walker, was responsible for managing the NASA Science, Education, Mathematics and Aerospace Academy (SEMAA) activity which was an innovative, national project designed to increase participation and retention of historically under-served and under-represented K-12 youth in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Ms. Walker also served as a Lead Personnel Management Specialist in the GRC Office of Human Capital Management. In this capacity she performed position classification, position management, staffing, and employee relations.
Ms. Walker started her career as a co-op student at the Navy Aviation Supply Office, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is a native of Philadelphia. She holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Drexel University. She has more than thirty five years of federal service and has served in various leadership positions throughout her career working in logistics, procurement, human capital and education. Ms. Walker has also received numerous awards during her tenure with the Federal Government including the NASA Exceptional Service Medal
