ORAS 2024 Solar Eclipse Event

The Oil Region Astronomical Society is hosting the Eclipse 2024 Event that is open and FREE to the public. If you miss this one, you will have to wait another 75 years to see a total solar eclipse from this part of the country.

Partial Eclipse at Mt. Lion Observatory

April 8, 2024 | 11:55 a.m.

We are inviting folks who have not seen a solar eclipse (even a 90% as we will see here)! We will have five (or more) telescopes fitted with correct solar filters so they may safely see the eclipse and see viewing methods like projection (e.g., solar funnel) and pin hole camera (e.g., straw hat).

The Eclipse at Erie Sports Center

April 8, 2024 | 1 p.m.

Join us at the Erie Sports Park located in the LECOM Sports Center for STEM-themed fun! Food trucks, music, and lots of science-themed fun including hands-on activities. Then join us as we don our eclipse glasses and observe the more than three minutes of totality.

Eclipse Within Our Gates – the Eclipse at Mercyhurst University

April 8, 2024 | 1 p.m.

Come to campus and join our celestial celebration! Starting at 1 pm we will be gathering on our athletic fields for space-themed events that will include music, games, and various STEM-themed activities. Eclipse glasses will be available on a first come basis, but opportunities to make your viewers to safely view the eclipse will also be there.
