The redesigned Shuttle External Tank, designated ET-120, sits in the Vehicle Assembly Building at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The tank’s arrival at KSC means that all the elements of the Space Shuttle system are now in place for the launch of Discovery on the Return to Flight mission, STS-114, targeted for a launch opportunity beginning in May. The 15-story, bronze-colored tank – the only Shuttle component that can’t be reused – helps power the Shuttle into orbit by providing 535,000 gallons of liquid hydrogen and oxygen propellants to the three main engines during launch.
