Lobed Star Coral and Finger Coral
A colony of lobed star coral (Orbicella annularis) interspersed with some branching finger coral (Porites furcata) sits on the ocean floor at Punta Soldado, Puerto Rico. While many of the lobes are still alive, many have been taken over by a burnt orange encrusting algae (Ramicrusta). Towards the center of the structure is a juvenile yellowtail damselfish: a small black fish with bright blue spots.
