NASA ER-2 tail number 709, now renumbered as NASA 809, is shown arriving at Edwards Air Force Base in Southern California upon its transfer from NASA’s Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, CA, to NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center in late 1997. The aircraft is one of two ER-2s used as high-altitude Earth science platforms under NASA’s Airborne Science Program. Currently based at the Dryden Aircraft Operations Facility in Palmdale, CA, the two aircraft fly on a variety of high-altitude science missions over various parts of the world. They are also flown on atmospheric sensor research and development, satellite calibration, and data validation missions.December 1997
