NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in California has released its first electronic publication version, or E-pub, of the center’s newsletter the NASA Armstrong X-Press.

“The new format offers flexibility in presenting stories in an interactive environment to give depth and dimension to the reader’s experience,” said Jay Levine, X-Press editor. “It is in this space where we can combine Armstrong’s amazing stories with the dynamic images captured by Armstrong photographers and videographers into one engaging experience.”

This product will be published incrementally to serve as an enhancement to the current monthly X-Press publication.

Kirstin Sharrer, Armstrong lead graphic designer, and Jay Levine, X-Press editor developed the new product. Kevin Rohrer, Strategic Communications chief, asked Levine and Steve Lighthill, X-Press managing editor, to look at options for a better reader experience for the electronic version of the X-Press. Lighthill and Levine researched the latest concepts in the industry and Sharrer’s expertise in E-pubs advanced the effort.

Mac users should be able to download and open with the Books program. For a PC, this download here will allow viewing of an e-book. Once downloaded, the reader will not have to repeat that step for future E-pubs.

For those who cannot download the E-pub or e-reader, or have seeing or hearing challenges, a pdf version is available here.

The X-Press began publication Feb.25, 1955, as the National Aeronautics Committee for Aeronautics High Speed Flight Station News. An employee contest resulted in a name change to the X-Press, which has been the publication’s name since the second issue published April 22, 1955.
