Biology readily demonstrates that life is an efficient user of resources around it, turning those resources into habitats, materials and forms that perform a wide range of functions efficiently. This project will initiate with a single project element researching a range of genomics and synthetic biology approaches for the design of organisms to perform reliable functions for future human and robotic exploration activities. The project will consider appropriate involvement of academia and the biotechnology industry.
