NASA Aeronautics Design Challenge

NASA’s nationwide team of aeronautical innovators are committed to giving university students opportunities to solve some of the biggest technical challenges facing the aviation community today. Through NASA-sponsored challenges and competitions, students representing multiple disciplines will put their skills to work by designing and building solutions to real-world problems.

Organized and managed by educators at NASA’s Langley Research Center in Virginia, this design challenge is not part of NASA’s University Innovation (UI) project, but its goals complement the university research enabled through UI. It is presented here to increase the design challenge’s visibility within the academic community.

More information including details on the 2020-2021 design challenge topic, rules and restrictions, project submission requirements, and a list of previous student competitions and winners is available here.

NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland also sponsors an annual University Student Design Challenge for undergraduate students that is unrelated to NASA’s UI project. This challenge can have both aviation- and space-related themes. More information can be found here.
