Studying Flames Beyond Earth

iss035e040444 (July 09, 2013) --- A vivid composite image illustrates the flames produced during the Burning and Suppression of Solids (BASS) experiment onboard the International Space Station. This experiment studied the burning and extinction characteristics of a wide variety of fuel samples in microgravity. Investigation findings contributed to computer models designed for fire detection and suppression systems in space and on Earth.
