Can you briefly describe your military experience?
I was a Master Gunnery Sergeant (E-9) MOS 5959: Air Traffic Control Systems Maintenance Chief. I supervised, coordinated, and instructed personnel in the performance of air traffic control maintenance functions. I also provided information concerning the capabilities, limitations, and reliability of air traffic control systems and equipment and instructed operation and maintenance of air traffic control systems. In this role, I formulated and implemented maintenance and supply plans, provisioned air traffic control systems, and prepared publications and training materials.

What is your role at NASA?
I am the Section 508 Program Manager for NASA’s Johnson Space Center. I champion for accessible technology, and promote access to training, tools, and resources that enable agency components to deliver solutions that support the needs of all users. I also lead efforts to establish Section 508 compliance policies and processes throughout organizations, including policies related to procurement, software and web development, content development and publication, and management of agency websites and other digital properties. I promote the benefits of accessible technology, and advocate and negotiate to improve accessibility of agency IT products and solutions and ensure compliance management activities for digital services and technology covered under the Section 508 law. 

How do veterans or military spouses benefit NASA?
NASA is an amazing platform for veterans to contribute to the overall mission while applying the experience and traits developed as a member of the armed forces.  NASA is a very a welcoming and diverse community where you will have numerous opportunities to contribute, learn, and create from early in your experience. The future of NASA would be enhanced and brighter with the experience, commitment and dedication that service members as well as their spouses bring to the table.

How has your military experienced helped you in your role at NASA?
The intangible skills (discipline, confidence, pride, etc.) developed as a member of the armed forces are directly related to activities and opportunities available at NASA.

What advice would you give to veterans or military spouses that are interested in a career at NASA?
Continue to fill that life-long learning ambition and apply for a Pathways internship while attending school.  This would help benefit NASA as well as the service member and their spouses.
