NASA has many programs that promote equal opportunity in all aspects of employment and seek to address barriers to full participation and inclusion in the NASA workforce. Examples of programs specific to American Indian/Alaska Native recruitment include:

  • American Indian/Alaska Natives Special Emphasis Programs: aims to promote equal opportunity in all aspects of NASA employment, and to ensure actions are taken to address barriers to full participation and inclusion.
  • Harriet G. Jenkins Pre-Doctoral Fellowship Project: seeks to increase the number of underrepresented persons with master’s and doctoral degrees in the NASA pipeline, and ultimately in the STEM workforce.
  • Minority University Research and Education Project (MUREP) for American Indian and Alaska Native STEM Engagement (MAIANSE): a program that involves American Indian and Alaska Native students in experiential learning opportunities led by NASA. MAIANSE facilitates American Indian and Alaska Native student internships at NASA and involvement in NASA competitions, workshops, and other NASA experiences, as well as grants and cooperative agreements to tribal colleges and universities or American Indian-Alaska Native organizations.
