Welcome to the Small Spacecraft Systems Virtual Institute (S3VI) Resource Brief!

Drumroll please! We are pleased to announce the release the 2020 Small Spacecraft Technology State of the Art (SoA) report. Over the course of many months spent surveying and reviewing small spacecraft systems available within our community, we have captured a number of new and more mature technologies and subsystems available across industry, academia, and government sectors. This report reflects the work of a number of NASA and contractor subject matter experts and we hope that you find it useful in your mission planning and design efforts. We are interested in any feedback you would like to provide.

This past quarter, the S3VI made significant progress on the Small Satellite Reliability Initiative (SSRI) Knowledge Base that was profiled in our August newsletter. The SSRI Knowledge Base is a comprehensive online tool that consolidates and organizes resources, best practices, and lessons learned from previous small satellite missions. With the progress made to date, we are targeting mid-January 2021 as the timeframe for the tool to be released publicly for use by the entire SmallSat community.

As 2020 comes to a close, I invite you to look through the S3VI’s webinars, resource listing, and other content that we make available on the web portal. In the next several months we will be reviewing and considering how to improve our online presence and make the content we provide, including live events, more responsive and topically aligned to the needs of the community. I look forward to your ideas on how we can expand and refine the web portal for 2021.

I encourage you to email us at agency-smallsat-institute@mail.nasa.gov with your comments and suggestions.

Happy Holidays!
