Process Improvement Lead, Disaster Response Coordination Office, Science Directorate, NASA Langley Research Center

Lauren Childs-Gleason serves as the Process Improvement and Deputy Manager for NASA’s Disasters Response Coordination System (DRCS). In this role she is responsible for management of the system’s knowledge management, process development and documentation, monitoring and evaluation, and training and scenario development. She monitors programmatic activities, conducts assessments, and leads programmatic and process reviews to ensure maximum efficiency, scientific integrity of products, and programmatic value added to the Disaster Response community. Lauren serves as Vice Chair of the American Association of Geographer’s (AAG) Applied Geography Specialty Group and Chair of the AAG’s Selection Committee for Best Paper Award in Geography & Entrepreneurship. Lauren began working with NASA in 2006 at John C. Stennis Space Center for the NASA DEVELOP Program. She transitioned to Langley Research Center in 2009 to join the DEVELOP National Program Office and served as the DEVELOP Operations Lead from 2009–2018. From 2018-2021, Lauren served as the Capacity Building Program’s Analysis & Coordination Lead where she helped coordinate across the program and led monitoring and evaluation activities. From 2021-2024, Lauren served as the DEVELOP Science Manager where she was responsible for ensuring scientific merit of DEVELOP projects, coordinating advising, leading strategic partnerships, and strengthening replication of DEVELOP project methodologies. Lauren holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Geography from the University of New Orleans and California State University Long Beach, respectively.
