Through 30 years’ experience with science and technology programs, at both NASA and the Department of War, Mr. Nelson has developed a passion for early stage concepts that challenge our notions of what is possible both in space and here on Earth. John also brings to NIAC extensive expertise in program and portfolio management, strategic planning, data analytics and performance management, and process improvement. In addition to serving as NIAC Portfolio Manager, John also currently serves as Portfolio Manager for the Center Innovation Fund (CIF) and the Early Career Initiative (ECI) within NASA’s Research and Technology Mission Directorate (RTMD). While John’s formal education is in life sciences and biomedical engineering, his professional experience spans a breadth of aerospace technical disciplines.
