Allen Kilgore

Acting Deputy Director, NASA Langley Research Center

Allen Kilgore is acting deputy director of NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia.

In this role, he and the center director plan, organize, and manage the agency-level programs and projects assigned to the center. This includes the responsibility of overseeing 3,400 civil service and contractor personnel from scientists, researchers, engineers, and mission specialists and Langley’s world-class facilities valued at more than $5 billion.

Kilgore recently served as acting director of Aeronautics at NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland. Prior to his service at Glenn, Kilgore was the director of Research at Langley Research Center. As director, he provided executive leadership and oversight of Langley center capabilities in fundamental and applied research within the disciplines of Aerosciences, Structures and Materials, and Intelligent Flight Systems. He has spent over 25 years in the safe operations and associated research of NASA Langley’s major aerospace research facilities, including working in most of the major wind tunnels with a primary focus on process controls, operations, and advanced testing techniques. For several years Kilgore also led the U.S. National Transonic Facility, the world’s largest cryogenic wind tunnel.

Kilgore started his career at NASA in 1989 as a support contractor and converted into the government in 1999. He is a Virginia native who earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Old Dominion University. Kilgore is also an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
