Wallops to Host Public Information Session July 19

A “bucket list” solar eclipse, NASA education opportunities, a new unmanned aerial systems runway and a new tower construction project are the topics du jour during NASA Wallops’ next quarterly public information meeting, scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 19, at the NASA Visitor Center.

Virginia Space Coast Scholars

Wallops Flight Facility is hosting quarterly information sessions at the Visitor Center to encourage continued dialogue between NASA and the local community.

During the July session, NASA personnel will staff information booths on Education Opportunities at Wallops as well as the Great American Solar Eclipse. For more information on the Solar Eclipse, which occurs Aug. 21, see:

Representatives from Virginia Space will be on-site to discuss the new Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport North Island Unmanned Aerial Systems runway. The new runway is unique in its dedication solely to unmanned systems. This new facility at Wallops provides government and commercial users with a runway under restricted airspace on a secure federal facility. More information is available here:

In addition, the U.S. Air Force will have representatives on-site to discuss their instrumentation tower project. A draft environmental assessment on the project is available for public comment and review now through Aug. 14. For more information, see:

The NASA Visitor Center is located on Va. Route 175 about five miles from U.S. Route 13 and five miles from Chincoteague.
