IRIS Captures Detailed Video Of Coronal Mass Ejection

The Los Angeles Times (5/30, Netburn, 3.46M) Science Now website reported that the Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph (IRIS) has captured a spectacular video of a coronal mass ejection (CME) from the sun in unprecedented detail. Bart De Pontieu, IRIS science lead at Lockheed Martin Solar & Astrophysics Laboratory, reportedly said that it has not been easy to observe the CME because IRIS can only see one small part of the sun at a time. De Pontieu said his team was amazed at what has been observed, and full details will be published soon.
