Dynamical Frameworks
The dynamical core is the part of the code that computes the large-scale motion of air and heat through the atmosphere based on the fundamental fluid dynamical equations adapted to Mars. There has been much progress in the Earth climate modeling community on these codes and the MCMC is currently transitioning from our legacy Arakawa C-grid finite-difference dynamical core to the NOAA/GFDL cubed-sphere finite-volume (FV3) dynamical core for simulating the climate of Mars. This highly parallelized core is scalable and flexible, which will shorten the wall-clock time and enable simulations at higher spatial resolution or for longer periods.
