K-12 Student STEM Events

The Office of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Engagement has a strong interest in contributing to a diverse future STEM workforce and supporting students pursuing STEM careers.  These events hosted by NASA Glenn that are designed to inspire student interest in STEM fields. The events feature professionals working in STEM fields at NASA Glenn, engaging STEM activities, and tours of NASA Glenn’s facilities.

Goals

This activity supports NASA’s Office of STEM Engagement strategic goals:

  • Build a diverse future STEM workforce by engaging students in authentic learning experiences with NASA’s people, content, and facilities.
  • ​Attract diverse groups of students to STEM through learning opportunities that spark interest and provide connections to NASA’s mission and work.

Scope

Virtual events are typically one to two hours in length and typically include:

  • A presentation from one or more NASA STEM professionals on a virtual meeting platform,
  • A question-and-question and answer session with the STEM professional(s),
  • A virtual tour of a NASA Glenn facility, and
  • A STEM activity that participants will do live during the event.

In-person events are generally three to four hours in length and typically include:

  • Interaction with NASA STEM professionals,
  • Guided tours of Glenn research facilities, and
  • One or more hands-on STEM activities.

Eligibility/Requirements

One-day STEM events are typically open to:

  • Students, teachers and/or parents and guardians that are United States citizens.
  • Schools or other youth-serving organizations from NASA Glenn’s home state of Ohio.
  • Specific eligibility is dependent on the target audience of each event.
