A Hall Effect Rocket with Magnetic Shielding (HERMeS) Technology Development Unit 1 (TDU-1) thruster is shown operating in Vacuum Facility 5 at NASA Glenn. TDU-1 has demonstrated three times the state-of-the-art electric propulsion thruster power and 50 percent higher fuel efficiency than the state-of-the-art Hall thruster. HERMeS TDU-1 is shown operating with a silicon carbide power-processing unit developed at NASA Glenn.
