A Defining Image

NASA Stennis employees install a space shuttle main engine on the B-2 side of the Thad Cochran Test Stand in preparation for testing the huttle Main Propulsion Test Article. The test article included a shuttle external fuel tank, a mockup of the shuttle orbiter, and the vehicle’s three-engine configuration. Once installed, NASA Stennis teams conducted multiple tests of the article, firing all three engines simultaneously as during an actual launch.
