iss073e0842436 (Sept. 15, 2025) --- At top left, the bright lights of the Korean Peninsula abruptly end at the border between South Korea and North Korea highlighting stark differences in energy infrastructure. The Seoul Capital Area—comprised of Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi Province, and home to over 25 million people—is prominent in this nighttime image. Japan stretches across the center of the frame near Earth’s horizon, illuminated beneath a red-yellow airglow. The International Space Station was orbiting 262 miles above Earth at approximately 12:55 a.m. local time when this photograph was taken.
