With its split ailerons deployed to increase drag and reduce speed, the X-48C Hybrid / Blended Wing Body technology demonstrator rolled to a stop on Rogers Dry Lake after it first flight on Aug. 7, 2012. The “C” version differed from the prior “B” version of the X-48 in having two 89-lb. thrust turbojet engines housed in larger nacelles in place of three 50-lb. thrust turbojets, an extended rear deck area, and vertical fins moved inboard from the wingtips to just outboard and to the rear of the engine exhaust ducts to improve the design’s low-noise characteristics.August 7, 2012
