What makes your job at NASA exciting or unique?
There’s always something new happening! In my short time with the agency, I’ve encountered dozens upon dozens of missions, projects, and programs that all contribute to NASA’s mission. In turn, I get to develop content that shares these innovations with the aerospace community and the public at large.
How does your position contribute to the future Artemis missions?
In my role, I work with engineers developing the communications systems and infrastructure that let NASA spacecraft “talk” with Earth. For Artemis, our teams are developing enhanced lunar networking capabilities, new emergency beacon technologies for contingency operations, and laser communications systems that will offer higher data rates and live, high-definition video from the Moon!
What’s your favorite thing about working for NASA?
I host NASA’s Space Communications and Navigation podcast, “The Invisible Network“. It’s a big effort that lets me flex a lot of my skills as a content creator while interviewing NASA subject matter experts agency-wide. It’s so rewarding to share complex topics in a narrative format that showcases how space communications empowers NASA and benefits the whole world!
Why is working in a diverse environment critical to our mission?
Diverse worldviews and experiences power innovation. My background is in theatre and creative writing, which allows me to approach technical content in a different way than an engineer or scientist. Often, it seems that what makes you different, makes you most effective!
