Mission: Student Airborne Research Program (SARP)
Giant Kelp beds in California’s Monterey Bay were the focus of research by university students aboard NASA’s DC-8 flying laboratory during the 2010 Student Airborne Research Program (SARP). Divided into investigative groups to study atmospheric effects of dairy emissions, evapo-transpiration from orchards and row crops, and distribution and abundance of giant kelp, the SARP students flew aboard the converted jetliner for an experiment check flight and the five- to six-hour data-collection flights.June 28, 2010
