Tracking and Data Relay Satellite-11 (TDRS-11), the first of the third generation TDRS is launched onboard an Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. The third generation TDRS design will return to S-band beam forming capabilities on the ground, like its first generation counterparts. Ground beam forming allows more flexibility to receive signals from multiple users. The solar arrays on the third generation have also been upgraded to be more efficient. TDRS-11 was accepted by the government as complete in Mid-August.
