Construction is complete on NASA Langley’s newest facility, the Hydro Impact Basin. The facility, located adjacent to the Gantry will be used to qualify future space vehicles for water landings.
Beginning Friday, Jan. 7, the work crew began filling the 20-foot deep basin with water. The fill-up, which will amount to one million gallons (3,785,412 liters), will last overnight and into the weekend.
Once water fill-up is complete, the dewatering system will be removed followed by minor concrete work around the basin’s perimeter and, finally, construction site clean-up.
