A three-quarter view of the F-107A (Serial # 55-5120) on Rogers Dry Lakebed at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. in 1959. It included a movable vertical fin with an area of 83.79 square feet, and a span of 11.02 feet. A Pratt & Whitney YJ75-P-11 engine with afterburner was installed.
Two North American F-107 airplanes were flown at the NACA/NASA High-Speed Flight Station starting November 1957 and continuing until September 1959. The F-107A was an aircraft possessing some interesting features that the NACA wished to examine in detail. The NACA acquired the first and third F-107As built.
