OCIO Purpose and Vision

The HQ/GSFC OCIO provides leadership to NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center on information technology (IT). The director of ITCD serves as the Goddard chief information officer (CIO). The CIO is the chief adviser to the Goddard center director for IT strategy, planning and IT service provisioning.

Purpose

Provide the workforce with the Information Technology they rely on to achieve Goddard’s science and technology mission:

  • Identify and advocate for the best use of information technology to accomplish the goals of the Center;
  • Broker enterprise services from the agency to provide efficient, secure, and cost-effective solutions; where necessary, extend those services with local solutions to meet the unique requirements of Goddard’s missions;
  • Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Goddard’s critical data and IT assets, balancing the level of security with the need for scientific collaboration.

In support of NASA’s Strategic Objective 3.3: Provide secure, effective, and affordable information technology and services that enable NASA’s mission.

Vision

The HQ/GSFC OCIO is an effective team of IT professionals who understand, and embrace as our own, the mission objectives of our Goddard, NASA, and other partners. We deliver information when it is needed and where it is needed, with appropriate protection, in a way that helps us all achieve our mission objectives.
