47 hours on the NASA IRTF telescope

Naseem Rangwala (PI), Sean Colgan, Timothy J. Lee,  and Xinchuan Huang are awarded 47 hours on the NASA IRTF telescope to conduct a high-resolution molecular line survey in the Mid-Infrared from 8 – 13.0 μm towards the well-studied Orion KL region. This observing program is a significant addition to our already accepted large (30 hours) SOFIA program covering the 13.0 – 28.3 μm region, which is inaccessible from ground-based observatories. SOFIA and NASA IRTF together will provide the first (almost) complete high-resolution spectral line survey in the Mid-Infrared of the Orion hot core – warm, dense region surrounding a massive protostar.
