X-ray telescopes like Chandra can see superheated matter that is swirling toward the event horizon of a black hole. Chandra — managed by NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama — has revealed how black holes impact their environments, how they behave, and their role in helping shape the evolution of the cosmos.
NASA Joins Last of 5 Sections for Space Launch System Rocket Stage
NASA finished assembling and joining the main structural components for the largest rocket stage the agency has built since the Saturn V that sent Apollo astronauts to the Moon. Engineers at the agency’s Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans connected the last of the five sections of the Space Launch System rocket core stage Sept. 19.
Marshall Team Members Receive Agency, Center Honor Awards
NASA and Marshall recognized more than 300 Marshall employees, contractors and teams during the annual Honor Awards ceremonies Sept. 25. Dennis Andrucyk, deputy associate administrator for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate, was the keynote speaker.
NASA Astronaut Jessica Meir, Crewmates Arrive Safely at Space Station
During Expedition 61, spacewalkers are scheduled to upgrade and repair the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer, a key science instrument housed outside the station to study dark matter and the origins of the universe. Marshall manages science operations for the space station.
Found: Three Black Holes On Collision Course
Astronomers have spotted three giant black holes within a titanic collision of three galaxies. The unusual system was captured by several observatories, with Chandra among the three NASA space telescopes involved. The system is located a billion light years from Earth.
