More about the Principal Investigator

  • What is your area of Expertise?
    • Twin Genetics
  • What interested you in getting involved with the Twins Study?
    • At the time of the solicitation for this project in 2013, I was involved in a number of large twin studies investigating the relative contribution of the environment and genetic influences on cardiovascular related traits and diseases and cognitive aging.   My other studies involved investigating how environmental stressors affect the genome.  The NASA Twin Study was a natural progression of my work.

  • What did you enjoy about the study?

    • I have enjoyed so many aspects of working with NASA and it has overall been a positive experience.  The efficiency of the staff which supports our data collection–there never seems to be an obstacle that they cannot overcome to move our project forward; you all in education and media who have brought our study to the public; the program officers who have successfully built a cohesive team from 10 individual projects; and having the opportunity to work with the other 9 investigators and their lab members.
