Nutrition is critical for all aspects of human health, on Earth and in orbit. Without adequate nutrition, problems can arise for systems in the body. To ensure that astronauts will be able to perform their jobs during a mission, it is important that they receive adequate daily caloric and nutritional intake to maintain their energy levels and good health. In this activity, students compare their estimation of a “serving” to a serving as recommended by a food label. They will also learn to estimate serving sizes using quick hand measurements.
