Natalie B. Colvin
Small Business Specialist at Kennedy Space Center
Tell us a little about your background.
I grew up in Lumber City, GA, and graduated from Telfair County High School in 1981. This area of the state is largely rural, and our family was one of many who farmed. In 1985 I earned my bachelor of business administration degree from Georgia College and State University. I began working as a contract specialist in the Office of Procurement, first in support of the Air Force, later the Marine Corp, and then the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. I married in 1986 and in 1993 I resigned my NASA position after the birth of our second child. During the next years, I worked in the educational system, first as a substitute teacher and then as a middle school science educator.
What made you want to become a small business specialist?
In 2016 I had the opportunity to return to civil service as part of Kennedy Space Center’s Office of Small Business Programs. I am always excited to assist small businesses and feel extremely privileged to be a part of this exciting time at NASA!
What is your favorite part of being a small business specialist?
Advocating on behalf of small business is my favorite part of being a small business specialist. Small Businesses offer new perspectives and specialized capabilities that contribute to NASA’s mission.
