Sherild Rivera Meléndez

Sherild Rivera Meléndez is the Human Systems Integration lead for NASA’s Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) Program at the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. In this role, Rivera Meléndez focuses on human-systems interfaces, including the flight crew, launch control and ground crew, to enhance the ability to operate and maintain those systems. She also is responsible for identifying any limitations for the ground and flight crew to reduce the risk of personal injury, human error, damage to flight hardware, and life cycle cost of operations.

Experience

She first began working at Kennedy in 2013 as a freshman and a Pathways intern until she was converted to full time in 2018. She started her career with NASA working life cycle reviews for post-Artemis I missions under the Technical Management Branch of the Systems Engineering and Integration Division.

Education

Rivera Meléndez graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus, with a degree in industrial engineering, and she is pursuing a master’s degree in Human Factors from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Personal

Rivera Meléndez is fluent in Spanish and English. She was born and raised in Aibonito, Puerto Rico, and now lives in Titusville, Florida, with her husband.

Líder de Integración de Sistemas Humanos, Programa de Sistemas de Exploración Terrestres

Sherild Rivera Meléndez es la líder de la Integración de Sistemas Humanos para el programa de Sistemas Terrestres de Exploración o ‘Exploration Ground Systems (EGS),’ por sus siglas en inglés, de la NASA en el Centro Espacial Kennedy en la Florida. En esta función, Rivera Meléndez se enfoca en las interfaces de sistemas-humano, incluyendo los astronautas, control de lanzamiento y los operadores, para mejorar la capacidad de operar y mantener esos sistemas. Además, es responsable por identificar cualquier limitación para las tripulaciones de tierra y vuelo para reducir el riesgo de lesiones personales, error humano, daños al equipo de vuelo y el costo del ciclo de vida de las operaciones.

Experiencia

Comenzó a trabajar en el Centro Espacial Kennedy en el 2013 como estudiante interno del programa de “Pathways” hasta que se convirtió en empleada a tiempo completo en el 2018. Así mismo, comenzó su carrera analizando y revisando el ciclo de vida de las operaciones para las misiones de Artemis bajo la rama de Ingeniería de Sistemas e Integración.

Educación

Rivera Meléndez, se graduó de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Mayagüez, con un bachillerato en Ingeniería Industrial, y ella está cursando una maestría en Factores Humanos de la Universidad Aeronáutica Embry-Riddle en Florida.

Personal

Rivera Meléndez habla español e inglés con fluidez. Nació y creció en Aibonito, Puerto Rico, y ahora vive en Titusville, Florida, con su esposo.
